FAQs

Who can join the sports events?

  • Anyone who wants to improve their sports, physical, leadership, communication and team work skills in a fun international competitive environment

Why should my child join Sports All Year?

  • Sports All Year is the first of its kind in Japan to focus on youth sports and life skills in an international setting
  • Youths can improve their English communication skills in a fun active environment
  • It is a place where both Japanese and International student athletes can learn, develop and compete together
  • Participation in sports is linked to an increase in self-esteem, positive body image, self-confidence and a sense of competence, as well as a decreased incidence of depression, pregnancy, smoking and drug use

What happens during these classes?

A typical session would include:

  • Warm up, dynamic stretching or conditioning drills
  • Fundamental drills (both competitive and non competitive) - passing, shooting(Basketball), setting(Volleyball)
  • Competitive scrimmages (Playing competitive scrimmages allows the student athletes to use all the fundamental skills they practiced into real game situations)

Why do you refer to the participants as student athletes?

  • Because they are student athletes! ;)
  • Like the great American philosopher said "These boys are student athletes. Student comes first" - Coach Carter

Who are the coaches?

  • At Sports All Year, we select highly motivated individuals with coaching experience, a strong understanding of their respective sport and enjoy coaching youths.
  • Each coach must complete an application, interview and background check before taking part as a coach at our classes

My child has never played this sport before. Will he/she feel out of place?

  • The player/coach ratio is kept low to allow plenty of individual coaching
  • The camp’s main focus is to develop skills in a fun, competitive yet positive and welcoming environment

How are the groups divided?

Groups will be divided by age and then by ability. If the numbers allow, we will hold separate classes for girls and boys

  • Starters          5 - 7 year olds
  • Rookies          7 - 10 year olds
  • Ballers           10 - 14 year olds
